The EXILE Infoshop is a collectively-run, volunteer worker-owned and -operated project organized around the anarchist principles of anti-oppression, equality, community-building, and worker control. We believe in egalitarianism, cooperation and a collective struggle against abuses of power.

In our country’s political crapital, of all places, it is absolutely crucial that members of the community have access to alternative media and resources. EXILE serves this need and provides a base and meeting space for local anti-poverty and social justice organizations, in addition to supporting mutual aid and the growth of grassroots community organizing.

The EXILE Infoshop opened MayDay 2007 as Ottawa’s first-ever (that we know of) Infoshop with an actual, physical space. We are a radical and activist resource center, library and bookstore, though we also intend to sell some local art and vegan goodies. We’re working to become a central networking space for local grassroots projects and organizations in the city.

Anti-Oppression Statement:

Exile Infoshop recognizes the inequities and systematic oppression of which we are all a part. We work in accordance with anarchist principles of anti-oppression. We take an active role in challenging, rejecting, and destroying all forms of sexism & patriarchy, racism & white privilege, ageism, ableism, heteronormativity & homophobia, classism, authoritarianism, and all other forms of unjust privilege and subsequent oppression.

We must remain conscious of our words, thoughts, actions, and interactions. We must work to recognize and undermine our privileges, to every extent possible. We cannot do this alone. We are all growing and rebuilding our selves, and our community, together. As a residual effect of our upbringing we all carry with us oppressive and hurtful tendencies. We are committed to being patient with one another, as we journey down the path of radical social change.
